Dr. Oleksandr Yushchuk

After being a PhD student in Ivan Franko national university of Lviv (IFNUL), Oleksandr successfully defended his PhD degree in molecular genetics in 2017. The thesis investigated the biosynthetic mechanisms of glycopeptide antibiotic teicoplanin. In 2023 Oleksandr successfully defended his DSc degree in molecular genetics, presenting works studying the regulatory and biosynthetic aspects of antibiotic production. Throughout his carrier, Oleksandr worked in several European universities. Currently Oleksandr is an Alexander von Humboldt research fellow at the department of genetics and biotechnology, IFNUL. He is experienced with different methods of bacterial genetics, general microbiology, molecular biology of nucleic acids, and analytical chemistry of natural compounds, and familiar with broad range of general bioinformatics tools. His research interests include searching for novel antibiotics and bacterial species, in silico and experimental investigation of evolution and spread of antibiotics resistance genes, as well as research on antibiotics biosynthesis.
